Go TREK Up From The Neck Up
Soo...Hi! My name is Lori and I am a cheez-it addict. Whew! I'm glad I got that off my chest! I just can't seem to help myself. Whenever I go grocery shopping for my household staples...you know, JIF peanut butter...chocolate-covered granola bars...frozen edamame...I walk by the snack aisle and re-realize how much I love square cheddar cheese-flavored crackers. I. Must. Have. Cheeze-its. Oh look! Cheeze-its are on sale and they go so well with applesauce and chicken...I'll get a box...or three. Oh look! Cheeze-its aren't on sale but they go so well with sandwiches and yogurt...I'll get a box...or three. Oh look! Cheeze-its are astronomically priced and I'll have to forgo eating meat this week but they go so well with air....i'll get a box...(wait for it...) or three!!! Yes...sad but true. It is the nature of my addiction. But this post isn't about Cheeze-its...it's about the little nifty time-waster I discovered on the latest Cheeze-it box I purchased. Check this out...you can turn yourself into a Vulcan!! Yessssssssssss!!!! All of my life's dreams are coming truuuuue!!!! Now all that's left is getting the fairy king to fall in love with me and grant me wings! Ahh...sweet fairy king... So where was I? Vulcan? Right. So....here's what you need: A mug shot of yourself - the more seriously pissed-off you look - the better, an internet connection, and nothing better to do with your time. Then skip on over and TREK YOURSELF. Sure it's creepy...but fun! ![]() Labels: Just For Fun |

MY DEBUT ALBUM!!
| So, I came across this fun little time-waster and couldn't help but jump right on in and spend a few minutes creating my own!! Basically, you're creating an album cover using random things. If you want to create your own band and debut album cover randomly then... Do This: 1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random” or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first random Wikipedia article that comes up is the name of your band. 2 - Go to Quotations Page and select "random quotations" or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 - The last four or five words of the very LAST quote on the page is the title of your first album. 3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days” or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days - The third picture in the top row, no matter what it is, will be your album cover. 4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together. Here are how mine turned out...I, uh...sorta cheated on the second one...the pic was too cute to NOT use... ![]() ![]() Labels: Just For Fun, Music |

Music News
A friend of mine talked me into going to this concert at Eddie's Attic last year and I couldn't say that I'd heard of any of the musicians scheduled to perform...but I am SO glad that I went (Thanks Abbykay!) because I 'discovered' Erin McCarley. She was one of ten musicians that were performing that night..and boy was she a standout! So, of course, I HAD to share my newfound love. You might've heard her song 'Love, Save the Empty' on the newly released movie 'He's Just Not That Into You'. I've been listening to her cd almost non-stop since I got it...some three months ago!! So...I'm just recommending that you go and check her cd out! You can even get a free download of her song 'Pitter Pat' from the cd here. Happy listening! Labels: Just For Fun, Music |

Fount of Free Fonts...
![]() So, I was out surfing our good friend, World-Wide-Web, and came across this site talking about using your creative juices to personalize your wedding, and a lot of that personalization came from creating your own monogram. Seeing as how I am ALL about doing things myself, I thought I would give it a try. So, I popped open my Microsoft Word and started typing away - testing every available font for the perfect fit. Lo and behold, (lo and behold? who says that anymore?! Apparently, I do...) I couldn't find that wonderfully swirly over-the-top calligraphic font that I was looking for. Oh kittens! Of course, I had to persist...persevere...and prevail! There is no 'Completely Give Up and Fail' in 'Try'! (hmm...I might've misquoted that one) And what to my wondering eye should appear? A wonderful little site called dafont.com. This site offers dozens of 'free for personal use' fonts that don't come with the usual set. So go ahead and download to your little heart's delight! If you try it out and seem to be having issues with it coming up as an option in Word documents, just write me and I'll try to give you some pointers! Oh...and here are those monograms I came up with - with my faux groom, John :o) Don't you just love creating monograms for you and your non-existent fiance? I know I do!! DIY T-Shirt Project
I bought my very first sewing machine this past year at my favorite place to spend time and money...Target. I've used it a few times for some little projects but after seeing this site, I became one inspired (or obsessed) with becoming a t-shirt refurbisher....a DIYer...an 'indie designer', if you will. So, I dusted off my little Singer....threaded the needle...and started figuring out what all the little knobs and wheelie things did. And here's what happened... First, I got my oldest, ugliest, most unwearable t-shirt out of the furthest corner of my over-stuffed closet. This, in and of itself, was quite a feat of strength...and endurance. Just look at it! Would you go out of your way to pull that beastie out of it's hidey-hole?! I think not. But I did retrieve it and here it is for all to look upon with terror...Yes...it is an extra large grey monstrosity, but don't judge me. You know you have one lurking in the shadows too... ![]() Next, I plotted my course. I knew I wanted little puffy sleeves and something a little bit more fitted around the torso...the potato sack look is apparently out this season. So, I figured an empire waist would work for me (and yes...that is to be read 'ohm-peer' as if you were Tim Gunn on Project Runway - which is a show I TOTALLY recommend watching!). That was pretty much the sum total of my planning process. Not exactly what I would recommend to others but...it is what it is, people! I got out my shears and started snipping to my hearts delight! I cut the shirt about 3/4 of the way up from the bottom and cut off both sleeves as well (on the inside of the seam so it came off with the sleeves). I went back into my closet and pulled a shirt that fit me well and used it as a pattern for the shape of the shoulders and sleeves. Once I had all that cut the way I wanted - after making sure I left enough fabric for the seams - I started working on my puffed sleeves. I found that the easiest way to get a pretty even puffed sleeve is by needle and thread. Using a running stitch through about half of the shoulder end of the sleeve, I pulled it to create the bunching that would make my puff.
![]() note: if you want your shirt to fit on the female parts...make sure you sew in a few darts for the little ladies! But I didn't. Instead, I made four pleats - two on each side - folded away from each other, and sewed that sucker down. I did find...after trying it on the first time...that I let the back portion be a little too large and it hung awkwardly. But with a zig-zag stitch, a large piece of elastic, and some straight pins, that was fixed in a jiffy. When all was said and done...it wasn't the most beautiful creation ever. But, I'm a first-timer in t-shirt surgery...there's always the next patient!! ![]() Labels: DIY, Fashion and Beauty, Just For Fun |

The American Dream...
![]() Have you ever thought to yourself, "Man, I hate having so much space...if only I could live in a teeny tiny house!" Maybe you are suffering from the recent downturn in our country's economy...or maybe you are really wanting to go Green and minimize your carbon footprint...OR maybe you have a secret fascination with turtles and want to carry YOUR home around with you wherever you go- for whatever the reason, check out this website and see why people are deciding to go small to go home. Jay Shafer, the mastermind behind the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company, is just one of the many people who have decided bigger is NOT better. He lives in one of his own creations which includes all the amenities a larger and far more expensive house would have without all that 'extra space'...or extra cost. These little buggars sell for around $15,000 and cost a mere $15 a month in utilities. Sounds pretty good, right? Well...don't get too excited yet. Jay may be able to live out his dream in his teeny tiny home...but there's not enough space for his wife. I guess every great deal has it's hidden cost, although for some of you, that might be an added bonus... Labels: Home Design, Just For Fun |

Perfumania!
So, I've had this little tickle at the back of my mind about perfume...and how I don't really wear it. I've never found that 'perfect scent' that just makes me feel well dressed - you know what I mean? I usually just splash on some generic vanilla bodywash that claims it's from Tahiti and hope it doesn't clash with whatever deodorant I happen to find. Boring. Boring. Boring. ![]() And the thing is, I LOVE scents. I love the smell of christmas and clean baby and long summer days (yes...they have a smell). And that last one is what I'd like to bottle. Somehow, I would love to be able to bottle up the smell of warm earth and cut grass and honeysuckle - which, I've decided, is what a long summer day smells like. (Do you think it would be too much if I threw in chocolate chip cookies too?) Apparently, making your own fragrance isn't impossible...at this site there are even a few recipes to get you started! So go ahead and grab your essential oils and vodka... Labels: Fashion and Beauty, Just For Fun |

Raindrops on Roses and Whiskers on Kittens
My Son: I don't have much to write about right now, but since I've become exceptionally fond of my new camera and become quite the shutter bug...I thought I could at least share a little in photos. My family went on a vacation recently that involved Disney World and the beach and these are a few of my favorites from that trip. Nothing fancy about these pics...but fun. Great memories captured on film. :o) Labels: Family, Just For Fun, Photography |

Custom Kicks? Check Out Keds.
Have you ever gone shoe shopping and thought to yourself? 'This is great...but if only I could add this color here or a little print there...it would ROCK!'. Well, here's your chance to do it. Keds now has the ability to let you download your own photos, pick out colors, and even change the stitching on a personalized pair of shoes. I spent a little bit of time on there today and had a blast throwing together some ridiculous shoes. When I finally settled down and customized something that was actually wearable, this is what happened: Yeah...they're nothing overly fabulous, but if you're into pink, plaid, and polka dots than this may be the shoe for you! You can save your designs and go back later to modify or even put them up for sale on the Zazzle website and earn some money if people deside to buy your fabulous designs! So, go ahead and check out Keds' website, pick your kicks, and start getting creative! Labels: Fashion and Beauty, Just For Fun |

More Salsa Please...Extra Spicey!!
As a regular watcher of shows like "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Dancing With The Stars", I might be considered a fan of dancing and those who can do it. However, recently I went from sideliner to participator. Yessss!! I have joined the dance crave! And in my eager quest for more dancing knowledge, I stumbled across this particularly interesting and absolutely free salsa tutorial site called Addicted 2 Salsa . This site is good for newbies (like me) who want to learn the basics and for those of you who are already beyond the basic steps and would like a few new moves to spice it up out on the floor. Definitely check out this site's videos and grab your partner for some fun!Labels: Dancing, Health, Just For Fun |
