COW-ABUNGA!!

Ok, I think we can all agree that the 80s rocked. With the acid-washed, tight-rolled jeans and the ponytails that could be worn ANYWHERE on your head and, of course, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Everyone had a favorite ninja and, of course, mine was the fun-loving, surfer-slanged Michelangelo...helloo? Who didn't love him?

So, this is like my grown-up version of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle crush...may I introduce the fifth, uh...awesome dude - Marc Bartolomeo! (c'mon, his name SO works for this: Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, Bartolomeo...) So, maybe he's not green...or radioactively enhanced...or a turtle with mad ninja skills...but his last name really IS Bartolomeo, and he is this week's HGTV COW.
He's one of those guys that started out as a handyman, turned GQ model, and then turned electrician on 'Save My Bath'. Oh, and did I mention that his nickname is Sparky? How sweet is that? He's one of two in the world that could get away with that nickname - and the other guy has a tail and is covered in fur. Anyway...I didn't really have time to do any in depth coverage on this guy since I was too busy checking out his portfolio here. And putting a fake shell and mask on him with photoshop took up WAY too much time. But I think Master Splinter would appreciate my efforts with a 'COWabunga' for Marc Bartolomeo, HGTV Crewman of the Week!

HGTV COW

Okay...this makes me giggle. You know, that girly-I-totally-could-have-a-crush-on-that-guy giggle. Because Eric Stromer, with his totally-tousled blonde locks and perfectly-pearly whites and the ever-present slightly-tight T-shirt, is basically a romance novel artist's greatest muse. In fact, you can find his likeness here:

Where he is saving some desperate woman with only one hand in the ever-secure and clearly effective 'thigh grip' that heroes in romance novels are famously known for.

Okay okay! I take it back...(but not really). Eric is more than a cheap thrill for us lonely ladies looking for a little bit of eye candy. Not much more....but at least a tiny bit more! In all fairness, Eric is more than just a pretty face (not that it is really fair to look that good AND have talent...). He's a multi-talented combination of builder, comedian, and musician! And it certainly doesn't hurt that he is one of the few that have made it to People magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive" list. You can check him out on our favorite home and garden channel when 'Over Your Head' comes on. Or hit up his website and ogle his image gallery (wiping drool off my face now...).

Good job, person-at-HGTV-who-hires-hotties, for hiring this week's Crewman of the Week, Eric Stromer. And I can only hope that one day, I get your job...

Holy COW!

Dontcha wanna, want Fontana?

Dontcha wanna?

This COW is a nice long drink of tall, dark, AND handy-some! Frank Fontana is the design guru for HGTV's 'Design on a Dime' and he's got 'get style for cheap' written all over him...probably in big bold harmonious colors that he found for pennies on the dollar at a discount store. Oh be still my heart! There is just something extra special about a talented, thrifty, Italian designer that just really gets the day started right!

Getting his start by winning ABC Television Networks 2004 Martha Stewart-themed reality competition "The Great Domestic Showdown". Mr. Fontana is not only a Designer on 'Design on a Dime' and 'Take Over My Makeover', he's also a columnist for the Chicago Sun Times.

Did I mention that this guy's pseudonym is "Italian Stallion"...oh, and "The Straight Guy, With a Queer Eye". Go check out his website for some really great design ideas in the photos section. Just click the pic below - Happy designing! And thanks to the "Italian Stallion" for being this week's HGTV Crewman of the Week!

HGTV COW

Brandon Johnson, host of 'Get Out, Way Out!'.
So, he may not be a hammer-slammin', nail-poundin', table saw-totin' carpenter type like our last several COWs. But he is armed with some powerful tools all the same. Namely a pair of heart-stoppin' baby blues and the deceptively nonchalant five o'clock shadow!
I could tell you his life story as told here on HGTV's profile web page...but you are probably so distracted by how amazing Brandon looks in Big Bird yellow that you would barely skim over it which would be a terrible waste of cyber space.
So...I'm just going to sit back and let you ogle.

Are you done yet?

And how about now?

This might take a while...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! And thanks to Brandon Johnson for his incredible ogle-ability and letting me...or at least not stopping me... make him my HGTV Crewman of the Week!

HGTV COW

Ali Azhar, contractor and design coordinator on Design on a Dime. You know, there is something about a guy that works on a 'dime' that really impresses the cheapness in me...and I consider it worthy of extra hotness points as well! This guy doesn't just talk the talk either...he is currently restoring his own home in Chicago's Lincoln Park area with an approach that will serve him well...to make a $1 worth out of every 15 cents.
Be still my heart!
What is his design style? Well, he says:

"I like things that are funky, very cool, very modern, very wow factor. Fashion-wise, I’m edgy. I’m an ethnic mix so that makes my look edgy from the start. I take a little of this and that and mix it together...Character is huge. I like to think that I’m the furthest thing from traditional. Right now I’m wearing Taverniti jeans, a pair of boots from God knows where, a heavy necklace from Morocco, a shirt I picked up at Marshall’s and my big hair. I’m a big hair guy. It doesn’t have to be expensive to look hot. I’m a different kind of guy with a different kind of style. It’s a little out of the norm, but it’s what I’m most proud of. It works for me. It’s my thing."

And all I read was "I shop at Marshall's. I'm hot and don't spend a lot of money to look it. And 'I'm a big hair guy'" - Helloo! I shop at Marshall's...I don't spend a lot of money to look hot...and I'm a big hair girl!!! What!?! Can a guy get any more perfect?!?! I submit that he canNOT!

If you'd like to read more of his interview on design style, check it out here. Ali Azhar, you're definitely my HGTV Crewman of The Week!

HGTV COW

Carter Oosterhouse from Carter Can. And yes...he can...look totally GQ while making cabinetry from used shelves, or anything your little home-makeover heart may desire!
Carter actually started out on HGTV in Trading Spaces but nothing could stop his good looks...umm...I mean talented workmanship...and he is now a bonafide host of a show named after...well, him!
He is the face of Nautica's fragrance Voyage, was named one of the sexiest men on TV by People magazine, Cosmogirl, & the TV Guide Channel, AND has established a charitable foundation called Build It Up - a program in which he works with community members to build playground areas for children. (insert collective sigh of approval here!) Bonus: he has a fantastically fun last name! Go ahead and say Oosterhouse five times fast....you know you want to...
So, Carter Oosterhouse, you are my HGTV COW of the week!

HGTV COW

I couldn't help but make an acronym for the HGTV Crewman of the Week...it's just too much to type it all out! And the acronym makes me giggle. So, this week's COW is...
Mark McGraw - carpenter on Spice Up My Kitchen. Recognize the last name? Well, you should. This COW is half-brother to the Grammy Award winning country music star Tim McGraw...and like his brother, is something of a looker!
After graduating college, Mark spent ten years as a firefighter and paramedic in Oregon before his woodworking hobby got serious and landed him a spot in Spice Up My Kitchen on HGTV. Now, he lives in L.A. and is studying as an actor. I gotta say, Mark is a big part of the 'spice' in this show! (haha!...I love cheesy lines and just couldn't help myself!) Here's to you, Mark McGraw, my HGTV Crewman of the Week!

HGTV Me!

There is this little television show that the women in my family invariably flip to whenever we get to be 'Masters of the Remote Control' - The Home & Garden Television channel. It is to us what ESPN is to the average male...and yes, we get decidedly giddy over Candice Olson's aptitude for designing just like a guy gets excited over Tom Brady...and all his uber-hott girlfriends. It's an entire network dedicated to making things beautiful...and functional...and sellable - who wouldn't love it?!?!

The other day I managed to commandeer the remote control and was in the throes of a kitchen remodel, bemoaning the fact that I couldn't make custom furniture, when I decided all I wanted this Christmas was my very own carpenter. Preferably one that looked as good as the guy on the show.

And that's when it hit me.

The guy on the show wasn't just passably handsome...he was downright doggone gorgeous! Dark hair...blue eyes...charming smile...WHY!?! Why would they do that to me?! Why would HGTV lure me in with their arts and craftiness and then dangle some dimple-flashing wavy-haired handy man in front of me like that? Has no one else noticed this? And so...I did what any lover of HGTV would do...

I compiled a list of my top favorite men on the crew at HGTV.

What!?! Somebody had to do it...

So, I've decided that I will be posting a HGTV Crewman of the Week each week until I run out of men...or weeks...starting with:

Aaron Foster, designer and host on FreeStyle. Apparently he's kind of a Jack of All Trades - majored in history in college, avid cyclist, artist, renovater, writer, producer, director, actor, guitar player...
The list probably goes on. After a copious lack of offers to become a professional cyclist, Aaron got into designing while working with artists and home furnishing designers in the company he co-founded in Atlanta called Relish.
As for style, he says it best himself: "I don't think there is such a thing as rules when it comes to designing a home, or the things in it. If something works, then it is right, no matter what convention might say."
Aaron Foster, you are my HGTV Crewman of the Week!
